A new podcast for young stroke survivors and their loved ones

A year in the making, 404: Brain Not Found is now live

When General Experiments founder Piers Grove had a significant stroke in May 2022, he was 46, a father of two and the Managing Director of Australian Geographic.

Having experienced what it's like to be a younger person with a career, mortgage and children suddenly stranded in a hospital stroke ward primarily filled with people over 70, Piers decided to start documenting his recovery in hope of supporting others who might be going through the same challenges. The podcast, 404: Brain Not Found, is the result of that work.

Speech pathologist Dr Andy Kilov and Piers Grove.

The podcast series uses Piers' personal experience as a lens through which other stroke survivors can follow his recovery and use it as a reference for their own paths back to health. In the 11-episode series, Piers interviews a paramedic, the nurse practitioner in the Emergency department of the hospital he was taken to the morning of his stroke, his own speech pathologist, his wife and other young stroke survivors.

"As a stroke survivor, I understand the isolation and uncertainty that comes with such a life-altering event. 404: Brain Not Found is a passion project aimed at fostering a supportive community and providing resources for young stroke survivors to thrive," Piers said.

The podcast is endorsed by Australia’s Stroke Foundation, who have loaned their support to the initiative with the addition to authoritative resources to its website and promotion to its community.

404: Brain Not Found is now available on all major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts.
